Glucosamine is naturally present in the shells of shellfish, animal bones and bone marrow. Since glucosamine is a precursor for glycosaminoglycans, and glycosaminoglycans are a major component of joint cartilage, supplemental glucosamine may help to prevent cartilage degeneration over extended periods.
